These days many professional MBA colleges are offering 'distance learning MBA' courses to students. You can get a MBA or other professional degree even if you do not attend regular classes by the institute. I think it is somewhat like a correspondence course. You can be located in a city far away from the institute yet you can get a degree after finishing the 'distance learning' course. Do you think such 'distance learning' courses are worth it?

This is a good option for working professionals who do not get a better chance of promotion for not having a related degree. Some universities even grant a degree/run graduation programs/diploma courses if you have related experience of certain period but do not have a degree/diploma. In such cases they even relax compulsion of attending classes in local centers. I think this is worth who wish to reach to higher places in their life but do not have a proper degree or missed opportunity during their study period.

Distance learning includes correspondence course. But there are also hybrid courses that combine correspondence course with periodic class room session also.

Distance learning differs from correspondence course in some respects. Distance learning is a correspondence course but there are periodical class room meetings also. This is a combination of classroom and correspondence.

That's right, they do it through local centers on weekends or video conferencing if the need be.

IGNOU conducts contact classes through its learning centres. In a big city, they are as many as 4-5 centres. There are many who have gone up to degree and subsequentky IAS, availing such distance learning centres.

It is truth that regular course is better than distance learning. But for peoples who cann't afford regular course distance education is best one for them.

There are even bigger institutes like BITS Pilani which conduct such courses. Companies like TCS, Infosis and Wipro etc etc get their programs designed and degrees equivalent to MS/Mtech awarded on the basis of distant learning programs.

IGNOU was given as an example. And this covers maximum number of courses.

Distance education is good for one who is working. IGNOU is a very good institution. We have to compulsorily attend classes, write assignments only then we can attend the examination. And exams are not so easy at IGNOU, you have to work hard to score good marks.
I have also come through some institutions where they help for examinations also. Such type of institutions are worthless.

Above all IGNOU's degrees and diploma courses are recognized by all the leading universities of the world .IGNOU is doing a commendable job.
