Respect for the govt is not there is the charge against award returnees, so the govt is disrespecting them in turn. In the process healthy debate on issues raised is just not taking place. @Shampa is right all cannot be demeaned.

@chinmoymukherjee I have nothing against your reasoning. We are giving benefit of doubt to the ruling party then I think we must give benefit of doubt to the writers and co. too. Let some time pass and I am sure the exact reason behind all this will definitely come out in open. I am not saying those who are not returning their awards must do so but those who are returning, they are also respectable persons of the society then accusing the whole lot is quite demeaning.

I agree with you. The writer himself is Bengali. And he has expressed his OWN opinion. as far as Opinion is concerned, is OK. But he never cared for others beliefs . This is not accepted by many devout Bengalis and Non - Bengalis. They were shocked. It's a blow and insult to the traditions and beliefs of the people in general and Bengalis in particular.

@vijay I don't know why are you supporting and encouraging the attitude of the politicians? You are putting politicians on the same pedestal with the rest of the countrymen. It cannot be so. Like Gandhiji there were many honest and selfless politicians but the present day politicians are mostly corrupt. Everyone cannot be Gandhiji but that does not mean, they should not have basic morality. They took oath to serve the country in a fair way, remember the other professionals do not take such oath. Politicians when in power are the representatives of people and those who are not in power then too they try to come to power as representatives of people but that's not the case with the other professionals. Sir, it seems you love to carry on discussion and so you always try to opine against the mass. Well, in a way it's not bad because then discussions never come to an end.

Yes, expecting logic behind such write-ups is actually asking for too much. I won't say it's an immature write-up because the writer explained his opinion quite clearly but this is another point that we do not accept his point of view. To me his opinion is very depressive one because we respect God and his thought is an insult to our faith.

When a close person, whom we love so much, do something wrong to us, it will hurt us very badly and the wound will be difficult to heal. Though it may not reflect in our external behavior, it will remain in a corner of our heart, like a black mark difficult to erase. ….. We may forgive, but we cannot forget.
But if similar thing happens from another person who is not related to us, it will be treated in a different angle. The issue will be resolved soon or later and will be faded from our memories in due course……. It happens so because we consider more sanctity to our relations.

People expect all politicians to be like Gandhiji, service oriented. Politics is like any other profession, only the terms of appointment are different and tenure is not defined. As people in other professions do, politicians also want to maximise their gains especially because their tenure is short.

The return of State honours by liberals and artists is sought to be dismissed as directionless protest, which it well may be. But the severe response from govt and ruling party alsi indicates that they are afraid of its impact. I will not be surprised if the "manufactured" protests are now countered by "manufactured" responses by others.

The boring topics if infrastructure, economy, jobs, health etc are now replaced by the interesting topics of beef, pork, cow, buffalo, etc. Someone has surely succeeded in diverting attention of the self styled intellectuals to these important topics.

I agree with you. The writer himself is Bengali. And he has expressed his OWN opinion. as far as Opinion is concerned, is OK. But he never cared for others beliefs .
