Parents should strike a balance strict parenting and liberal parenting. Too much of either of these two would prove counter productive.  There is a saying, praise your child openly  and reprimand in privacy. This says all about ideal parenting.

And we should take into account the criminals which agree to support prosecution in proving other accused guilty by providing leads on condtion that they will either be acquitted or punished symbolically.  I will lock this thread at this point as everyone seems to agree this discussion was a great success.

That's the charm in Forums, Forums are the confluence of different people. A stage, where different people enlighten the members with their intellect and erudition and spice up these Forums which I call them as Treasure chests of knowledge.

@usha manohar In my previous comment I have used the word 'harsh' which I sometimes apply on my son. Here, harsh means just refusing to do his work which I know he can do it easily if he tries a bit and secondly he has got enough time to do so but it's not that I force him to become independent. Sometimes I make him understand nicely but when he becomes stubborn or simply starts nagging me then I need to become strict and being strict is always a bit harsh but obviously not too harsh. There are times when I get very strict then my son too understands that he must have committed some great mistake.  I absolutely second your thought that if I have a right intention while bringing up my child then there is no need to follow others' advice. I do discuss about my son with my sisters but basically I follow my instinct in nurturing him because with time everything varies. It's different when mothers act selfishly but when a mother knows that she is selfless then it's her choice how to bring up her child but yes too much of love or too much of strictness will definitely spoil the child.

I am neither spiritual nor religious but the my trust or faith is only a way of concentration. I always say a single line "Don't let me commit any mistake today and bless everyone whom I know'.

This is not the case of regionalism but infusing the new talent. The fact that she has won/participated in such a big number of world cups is in itself a proof that she is a veteran and should not show her frustration. All great players accept this situation in their lifetime and the ones who accept the fact gracefully remain great for ever.

Shampa Sadhya said thank you to Kalyani Nandurkar for his/her reply to the topic Are we leading to Empty Nester Syndrome?.
Shampa Sadhya wrote: I think I have read about this couple in a newspaper or watched an interview and felt motivated. Life has to be channelised. I am a mother of thirteen year old son and my life revolves around him. Though I had dreams of mine, now it only centres around my son and family. One thing is very clear in my mind that a day will come when there will be a drastic change in our lives and then I would find myself all alone. That's the reason I started devoting time in writing which is my me time and helps me to remain detached for some time which is very important to live a stress free life. The link I posted when I started this thread was recommended by my eldest brother to read and learn something from it. So, I thought to share with you all and have a meaningful discussion. Thank you Shampa for posting this discussion and especially this post. My life too revolves around my 8-year-old son and my family, although slowly and steadily it is since 5 years that I started working online and offline both, yet my son is the most important focus of my life and this discussion has led me to think about it differently. Although my husband keeps telling me the same thing again and again, it is only now I have realized that I am not alone and most of us are afraid of letting our children go, especially inputs from Usha who has had to let go of not one but three children out in the world, are really valuable.

Religion, due to many reasons binds you. I mean religion prescribes a set of norms, the follower has to act or think within these set norms. Whereas spirituality makes you free.

Each and every religion was established to invoke spirituality among us who are actually spiritual beings on this human journey. Each and every religion, each and every ritual present in various religions are all actually methods by which soul can connect with Supreme Soul. Thus, both religion and spirituality are same. However, today we have forgotten the real meaning and all that is left in the name of religion is rituals which seem boring and tiring as we are doing them for the sake of doing.

May be. But I have seen the best. TEN Commandments, Benhur to name a few. If It happened so in your case, it's mere bad luck. One cannot brush away all the Movies which won Oscars.

The key factor is commitment, dedication and devotion. At the age of 105, seeing this amazing act, certainly we the Indians would have raised the eyebrows  with suspicion. Because we see the things in a different way. we think, " If we cannot achieve, none can achieve and should not achieve."

If he was in India there would be a huge clamour to check his birth certificate, caste certificate, Adhar card, ration card, pan card , electricity bill, gas bill and so on to decide whether he really is 105 years old. Any prize money would be kept in abeyance. A commission may be constituted. Everyone would be appealing to the PM to intervene. There would be no response. Arnab Goswamy would be debating on his 'Chilla Chilli Channel' and Swamy would threaten a law suite depending on the runners religion. But hats off to the Japanese for his feat.

Exactly. Still now Maggie manufacturers roaming scot-free. Had the Indian government been  strict, VW would have got severest of the penalties. But we all know that such  strange things will not happen here.

In the last two years I have seen Oscar awarded movies and found them to be average and a couple of them were indeed like Hindi movie stories. What greatness is bestowed by Oscars is not clear. The marketing of Oscars is superb , no doubt about that. It sells around the globe including India.

Yes common persons indeed have become insensitive and this is benefiting the politicians tremendously.

Spirituality is abstract and religion is visible. So the former is within the individual and the latter is subject to exploitation.

EXACTLY.  Common man is so used to these corruption practices, that they have become practically deaf and dumb.
